I was appointed to Susanville's City Council on April 19, 2017, to fulfill the remainder of a term vacancy. It has been an honor to serve my hometown and its citizens. I am humbled by the privilege.

 

My maternal grandparents moved to Susanville in the mid 1940's and were soon followed by my paternal grandparents in the 1950's. My great-grandfather moved to Susanville in the late 1950's. My parents attended local schools and were married in 1959. I was born in 1961 at Potter's Maternity Home in Susanville. I attended Roosevelt, McKinley and Diamond View Schools before graduating from Lassen High School and attending Lassen College.

 

My parents were blue collar workers. When I was 11 years old, my father and uncle made the decision to open a small business on Main Street.  We worked hard as a family to build our business. Jackson's Service Center is successful today and my family still owns and operates it.  My mother retired from Susanville Supermarket after working 25 years in check stand #5.

 

At the age of 18, I was diagnosed with cancer.  During my battle, the prayers and support from the Susanville community, for both my family and myself, were overwhelming.  I am forever grateful.

 

My husband, Rich, and I raised both my daughter and stepson in Susanville where they attended local preschools and schools. My daughter and stepson are locally employed and are raising their families in Susanville. My grandson, who was born at Banner Lassen Medical Center, is the sixth generation of my family to have a Susanville address. My husband retired after working at California Correctional Center for over 31 years.

 

Prior to my retirement, I worked at Lassen College and Lassen High School. I have served on the Meadow View School Site Council and Diamond View School Site Council.  I am currently the Vice Chairperson of the Lassen County Air Pollution Control District Governing Board. I also serve on the Airport Land Use Commission and am a member of our local Blue Ribbon Commission.

 

I have the desire and time to continue serving on the City Council.  I am not enrolled in the City of Susanville's health benefits package, my reason for wanting to remain on the City Council is not to help myself but rather to help our community. I am a dedicated citizen and plan to live out my life in Susanville.

 

As a City Council member, the protection of our citizens, preserving the integrity of our neighborhoods, and Susanville's successful future are my priorities.
